Drop Bass Network Records
The name says it all. Drop…acid reference. Bass…sound reference. Network…bigger and bolder.
What started in 1992 as a group of friends throwing raves to provide a previously nonexistent outlet for hardcore techno music, developed into an internationally recognized home for the sound of the Midwest Hardcorps.
Drop Bass Network Records, and its sub-labels SixSixtySix and Ghetto Safari, provided the relevant soundscapes of hard acid, even harder industrial noise, and yes yes, hard drum and bass. Frighteningly abrasive and loud, the Drop Bass Network aesthetic combines intensity with a sly and subtle sense of humor.
With a discography that spanned 86 releases during it’s initial run from 1994-2006, Drop Bass Network Records releases are coveted by DJs around the world. The artist roster is a global who’s who of hardcore producers.
All of those Drop Bass Network Records vinyl releases are long gone now. Some were discontinued after the first run Some were repressed again and again reaching impressive numbers for a small independent techno label. The sublabels were limited edition pressings that all sold out instantly.
As time went on the stamper plates used for pressing records were past their life span. Then in the early 2000s the vinyl market crashed and distribution went bust. The acid sound of Drop Bass Network Records laid in rest deteriorating on the original DAT tapes.
Drop Bass Network is going through the process of converting all those original tapes to digital files and carefully restoring, then expertly remastering them one at a time. Nearly 300 tracks in total! Expect a sound that maximizes the sonic experience to today’s standards, while still remaining true to the original vision.
Available exclusively on Bandcamp, the catalog is planned to be re-released in groups by artist. Watch for updates on Our Releases page or follow us on Facebook and Instagram.
